2015 NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia/U.S.

Following an invitation from Gregory Perry and Joe Cummings, the President and CEO of NSCAA respectively, 1st Vice-President Jukka Vakkila and General Secretary Philip J. Müller visited the 68th NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia/U.S. from January 14th to 18th.

More than 10,000 coaches were in attendance again this year. The presentations and practical sessions were given by national and international speakers. Amongst the attendees were coaches/officials of DFB, the German football association, and the football associations of Croatia and Mexico, the women’s national squad of Trinidad & Tobago as well as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. The practical sessions took place on two artificial indoor pitches.

The highlights of the Convention featured a visit from Brazilian football legend Pelé and Manchester United’s former long-standing manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Paul Breitner gave a lecture on Bayern Munich’s development and philosophy. Unfortunately the auditorium was too small to fit in all those wishing to listen to his words.

We would like to make special mention of our esteemed friend and well-known guest speaker at many AEFCA Symposiums, Jeff Tipping. The former Director of NSCAA received NSCAA’s Honor Award for his many years of excellent service! Another award went to Landon Donovan, who used to play for the U.S. national team. He was chosen to be the most valuable and best player in the history of the U.S. national squad.
Of course women’s football was another key item on the agenda. The upcoming World Cup in Canada comes with raised expectations as women’s football has improved considerably not only in the U.S. but also in Europe.

The closing event of the marvellous Convention was the 68th annual Awards Banquet with the following categories of awards for the best coaches and officials:

– Youth Coaches Awards
– High School Coaches Awards
– College Coaches Awards
– NSCAA Honor Awards
