45th BÖFL Advanced Training Course 2014 in Schielleiten
8 July 2014 – The Association of Austrian Football Coaches (BÖFL) organised its 45th advanced training course from 27 to 29 June 2014 in the federal sports centre Schielleiten Castle situated in the beautiful Steiermark region.
Day One was dedicated to children’s football. Long-time youth football expert Richard Ciesler kicked off proceedings with a presentation about children’s motor co-ordination skills and the basic 2-2 formation as the nucleus of football for the very young.
He was followed up by Tilo Morbitzer, sporting director at the Vienna Regional FA, who explained the technical/tactical preparations of possession play, from playing on small-sided fields to regulation-size pitches.
Day Two of the event was started by Gerhard Löwe, the Austrian FA junior teams’ goalkeeper coach who, in his “Professional Goalkeeper Training” presentation, showed what it takes to be a goalkeeper for the modern age.
Making the move from preventing goals to scoring them, Dietmar Pegam, head coach at AKA Steiermark Sturm Graz, and Thomas Weissenböck, head of coach education at the Upper-Austrian Football Federation (OÖFV), presented – in both word and deed – various principles of attacking play, effective counter-attacking, and counter-pressing. To conclude the day, Austria Vienna head coach Herbert Gager reported his impressions of the UEFA U19 Youth Champions League’s pilot season.
The third and last day of the course began with the general assembly and ensuing elections to the BÖFL board. The final item on the agenda was a highly-acclaimed presentation by Wolfgang Hartweger, who chairs the coach education department of the Federal Sports Academy in Vienna, about the mental factors in football. A first-class advanced training course that achieved the perfect mix of theoretical and practical content over three successful days.
