AEFCA member ICA celebrates 40th anniversary
13 December 2010 – The Icelandic Football Coaching Association (ICA) was founded in Reykjavik on 13 November 1970 – reason enough for our friends from Iceland to celebrate the association’s 40th anniversary, to the day 40 years later.
More than 90 participants accepted ICA President Sigurdur Thorsteinsson’s invitation to attend a coaches’ symposium organized on the premises of the Icelandic FA (KSI). Following the official welcome and introduction by ICA Vice-President Kristjan Gudmundsson, who was in charge of the congress, the programme included, amongst other topics:
- An in-depth analysis featuring the Icelandic U21 national team players (presented by the KSI Technical Director, Sigurdur Ragnar Eyjolfsson).
- The German Football Association’s (DFB) Talent Promotion Programme (presented by Michael Köllner, DFB Talent Promotion Co-ordinator Bavaria)
- Fitness and Conditioning Training in Football (presented by Raymond Verheijen, The Netherlands)
The ICA being a founding member of the AEFCA precursors UEF and UEFT, respectively, it went without saying for AEFCA General Secretary Karlheinz Raviol to pay his respects by handing over a framed certificate in appreciation of the ICA’s long-standing co-operation, as well as a cheque earmarked for the ICA’s education and youth promotion efforts.
