AEFCA mourns the death of Klaus Röllgen
6 July 2010 – On 2 July 2010, our former Vice-President Klaus Röllgen (1998-2004) died in the Rehabilitation Centre Bonn, where he succumbed to a fatal disease.
A son of the Rhineland region, he considered it his life’s mission to teach and educate qualified coaches. For all of 30 years, he worked as the Mittelrhein regional FA’s coach based at the Hennef Sports School near Cologne, a household name for numerous foreign coaches who received their coaching badges there.
For two decades, the Sports Sciences graduate and PRO Licence holder occupied the honorary position of spokesman for the regional FAs’ coaches of the German Football Association (DFB).
From 1994 to 2003, he served the Association of German Football Coaches (Bund Deutscher Fußball-Lehrer; BDFL) as its President. As such, he was a permanent member of the DFB’s coach education staff. During his two terms in office with the AEFCA, he combined a hands-on personality with a lifetime’s wealth of experience in coaching, becoming a universally respected member and very much-loved friend.
The AEFCA joins the BDFL in mourning an admirable man and dear colleague whose memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
