High-calibre experts at the ANTF coaches’ forum
15 April 2014 – Just under 700 Portuguese football and futsal coaches, respectively, accepted the invitation extended by the ANTF (Associação Nacional dos Treinadores de Futebol) and its President, José Pereira (62), to converge on the “European City of Sport 2014” Maia near Porto on 24 and 25 March 2014.
Starting the event with a bang, the organisers presented a panel discussion that included the head coaches of Portugal (Paulo Bento), Greece (Fernando Santos), and Iran (Carlos Queiroz) – all of them participants in the 2014 FIFA World Cup -, complemented by the Portuguese head coach of the Iranian women’s national team, Helena Costa.
Other high-calibre experts, be it up on the stage, on the pitch during the practical demonstrations, or in the audience, lent the coaches’ forum a quality of its own. They included, to name but a few, Venancio López (Spain’s futsal head coach), Joan Vilá (Grassroots Coordinator at FC Barcelona), Dr Silveira Ramos (Technical Director of the Portuguese Federation, FPF), former champions’ coaches Jesualdo Ferreira (FC Porto) and Jaime Pacheco (Boavista), former Vietnam head coach Henrique Calisto, and Portugal’s current futsal head coach Jorge Braz.
Obviously, the list of attendees also included the AEFCA – President Walter Gagg provided a report about the state of affairs at the Alliance, looking ahead to explain what is planned to tackle the challenges faced by the continental football community.
