Successful Congress hosted by AEFCA member BDFL
28 August 2009 – The “golden city” of Pforzheim – thus called in recognition of its jewellery and watch-making tradition – was the venue for the 52nd International Coaches’ Congress (Internationaler Trainer-Kongress, ITK) hosted by the German Coaches’ Association (Bund Deutscher Fußball-Lehrer, BDFL) from 27-29 July 2009.
More than 700 Pro and “A” licence coaches met at Pforzheim’s CongressCentrum to listen to the presentations and witness the practical demonstrations of the local Holzhofstadion.
The 2009 ITK motto was “The Opportunities, Potential, and Limits of Personality Development in Football”, a topic scientifically dealt with by renowned psychologists and sociologists presenting the latest findings in this field. On the pitch, junior team coaches of the German Bundesliga clubs FC Schalke 04 and Hertha BSC demonstrated how these can applied in training and, ultimately, translated into match-winning tools.
In addition to Personality Development, the ITK also focussed on “Positional Training (Defence)” and “Positional Training (Offence)” demonstrated in practice by German FA coach Ralf Peter and German FA technical coach Marcel Lucassen, respectively.
Former FC Schalke 04 head coach Mirko Slomka received plenty of praise and applause for his lively talk on “Motivational Strategies in Times of Crisis”, as did the participants of the high-calibre panel discussion that concluded the three-day event – Matthias Sammer (German FA Director of Sports), Frank Wormuth (German FA Chief Coach Instructor, Pro Licence), Horst Hrubesch (German FA coach, current U-19 and U-21 European champion), Mirko Slomka, and Michael Oenning (1. FC Nuremberg head coach) engaged in an animated exchange of views on “The Modern Coach – his Role and Job Profile”.
Addressing the attendees in his dual capacity of BDFL President and AEFCA 1st Vice-President, Horst Zingraf officially closed a congress that was tremendously successful, not least on a personal level as he and the entire BDFL board were unanimously re-elected by those present for another three-year term.
